The CCA is holding an advanced Public Speaking Course for Councillors in conjunction with The Roe Project at CCHQ, London. Participants must have completed Stage I in order to attend. This advanced programme will develop the skills learnt in Stage I and give participants the opportunity to apply them to a variety of scenarios faced by councillors, including a debate/public meeting, media interviews and giving a speech. This year's Policy Briefing Session with the DCLG Team which is kindly sponsored by the LGA Conservative Group will be held in Exchange 11, Manchester Central. This popular Q&A session will give councillors the chance to question members of the DCLG Ministerial Team including Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP and Party Vice Chairman for Local Government Bob Neill MP, as well as receive a policy briefing from the DCLG team on the year ahead.

The CCA will be hosting a Drinks Reception at Party Conference in The Midland Hotel. Tickets cost £10 for CCA Members and £12 for non-CCA members. This event is within the secure Conference zone, so a Party Conference Pass will be required to attend.

This seminar is aimed at Finance Portfolio Holders but is open to anyone wishing to further develop their understanding of local government finance. The seminar will be led by Cllr Melvyn Caplan, Finance Cabinet Member for Westminster City Council. Topics covered will include the budgeting process, the legal framework, and relationships with other precepting authorities. There will also be the opportunity to share best practice and ask questions.

The CCA is holding an online campaigning training session with the aim of providing practical online training for those with elections in May 2014. This will enable Conservative candidates and councillors to have an important online presence ahead of polling day. The day will look at general online campaigning, editing your own yourcllr.com website and creating a twitter account.

The New Councillors Training Day at CCHQ, London, will consist of a series of presentations by those with a wide experience of local government and the Conservative Party. There will be sessions on understanding the Council and your role as a councillor, your online presence and Social Action. The day costs £5, including lunch. The CCA and LGA Conservative Group have set up a meeting between Conservative Group Leaders and Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, and the DCLG Ministers at Local Government House. This is an opportunity for Group Leaders to raise any questions you may have, to learn more about local government plans for the next year, and to engage with your colleagues.
