We were delighted to hold a session last night in partnership with the New Councillor Programme about keeping up as a councillor. We were pleased to be joined by Cllr Heather Blurton, Cllr Pinder Chauhan, Cllr Keane Duncan and Cllr Maria Higson. Our panellists candidly discussed their experiences and strategies for balancing their responsibilities as a councillor alongside their other commitments. It was a fantastic opportunity for prospective councillors to find out more about the commitment the role entails.
Over the last few months, we have also held sessions where our panel discussed their experiences of campaigning in the run-up to May’s local elections and an event after the elections where we spoke about next steps if you weren’t elected in May. These sessions were great opportunities for prospective councillors to learn more about the experience and skills gained from standing as a local government candidate.
