Conservatives held a seat in North East Derbyshire and gained a seat from an Independent (who was originally elected as a Conservative) in South Tyneside.
Labour held a seat in North Tyneside and gained a seat from the Conservatives in North East Derbyshire. The Liberal Democrats retained a seat in Newcastle Upon Tyne and an Independent candidate held their seat in South Derbyshire.
